Day 1 (Saturday)

Make your own way to Darwin and check in to your overnight accommodation. Take the opportunity to discover this tropical city in your free time this afternoon.

Day 2 (Sunday)

This morning is yours to enjoy at leisure before joining your afternoon scenic air transfer to Bamurru Plains. This Wild Bush Luxury property in Australia’s Top End provides you with an extraordinary wildlife experience on 300 square kilometres of private land. Located just to the west of Kakadu National Park, Bamurru Plains allows up to 20 guests to enjoy exclusive access to miles of the Sampan River, the coast and the Mary River floodplain system. With a profusion of bird and wildlife on the doorstep of this unique bush camp, the focus of a stay at Bamurru is on the environment and the creatures for whom it is home.
Each safari bungalow overlooks the floodplain and, with mesh walls on three sides, you will hear, see and almost touch the wildlife and wilderness around you, waking to the call of the magpie geese as the orange light of dawn spreads across the floodplains. The range of guided experiences on offer (weather dependent) includes skimming across the floodplains by airboat, fishing, spotting crocs from the river boat, and viewing the agile wallaby and buffalo on open-top safaris. (B,L,D)

Day 3 (Monday)

Wake to the sounds of nature from the comfort of your bed. The décor of your safari bungalow reflects the region’s earlier Indigenous, hunting and pastoral history, with buffalo horns, explorer’s maps, Aboriginal artwork, fish traps and old photos providing a sense of the human heritage of the area. There is no internet access, no television or mobile phone coverage. A true escape to your immediate environment. Join today’s guided experiences and get back to nature. See the floodplain wetlands of the Mary River catchment on an airboat safari, spot water buffalo and brumbies from the open-top safari vehicle, or set off on foot through paperbark forests and savannah environments on a guided walk. Enjoy delicious chef prepared meals in The Lodge while watching the wildlife go by. There is a well stocked library offering a collection of reference books should you wish to relax in a comfortable chair. (B,L,D)

Day 4 (Tuesday)

Take in any last minute sights this morning or simply relax in the cooling waters of the infinity pool. Help yourself to a cold drink from the bar – be it a crisp white wine, a gin and tonic or sparkling water, the choice is yours. Bid a fond farewell to Bamurru Plains as you depart aboard your scenic air transfer to Darwin. On arrival in Darwin, make your way to your accommodation. (B)

Day 5 (Wednesday)

Your journey aboard The Ghan Expedition begins. After a light lunch in the restaurant, arrive in the famous Top End township of Katherine. Here you have a choice of an afternoon filled with Off Train Excursions that take in the natural beauty of the Gorge, as well as its cultural and historical significance for Indigenous and early settlers. Back on board in the early evening, there is plenty of opportunity to share your experiences with fellow guests. (B,L,D)

Day 6 (Thursday)

This morning, wake to the spectacular Red Centre.  A beautiful breakfast prepares you for a full day of Off Train Excursions that include lunch in Alice Springs. You’ll return to the train for a quick freshen up, before dining under a million stars in the outback. Returning to the train, the lounges are open until late so you can share your journey highlights so far, or quietly relax before retiring. (B,L,D)

Day 7 (Friday)

Breakfast is served as you arrive in Manguri where you disembark and travel by air-conditioned coach to enjoy a full day of touring in and around the truly unique, underground opal mining township of Coober Pedy. Dinner is served back on the train where you can enjoy a nightcap as you journey through the night. (B,L,D)

Day 8 (Saturday)

Wake early this morning to disembark The Ghan Expedition in Port Augusta where your transfer awaits to take you to Arkaba. In true Wild Bush Luxury style, the Arkaba Homestead pays homage to its rich pastoral and exploration heritage in a manner that is both rustically chic and utterly exclusive. Your hosts ensure a friendly and personal level of service that is typically ‘down to earth’ but does not lose sight of the attention to the small details that are so important in delivering an outstanding outback experience. The original layout of the 1850s Homestead has been retained, making all five guest rooms delightfully unique. Each has its own character and all have ensuite bathrooms, and open out onto a shaded verandah with individual views of the surrounding ranges. A collection of immersive wilderness experiences are available including safari drives, walking safaris, Arkaroo rock art walk, Brachina Gorge and more. (B,L,D)

Day 9 (Sunday)

Start the day early or enjoy a lie-in before soaking up all this beautiful Homestead has to offer. Relax in the comfortable library with deep leather armchairs and a large stone fireplace providing seclusion to enjoy a quiet drink and a good book. Swim in the pool overlooking the Arkaba Creek or join one of the many guided experiences. Do a bit of wildlife spotting or look for birds – from mobs of emus to wedge-tailed eagles soaring high, to the tiny Horsfield Bronze Cuckoo perched in the trees, there is an abundance to see. Arkaba is without internet, televisions or mobile phone coverage - no excuse to not be one with nature. Enjoy delicious chef prepared meals and help yourself to beverages when needed. (B,L,D)

Day 10 (Monday)

Time to say goodbye to Arkaba and make your way back to Adelaide. Your scenic road transfer will travel via the Clare Valley where picturesque stops, lunch and wine tasting will fill your day. On arrival in Adelaide, transfer to your overnight accommodation. (B,L)

Day 11 (Tuesday)

This morning after breakfast, check out of your hotel. (B)
