Start the day with a stop at Yanchep National Park where you get to walk along the 240 m Koala Boardwalk and get up close to koalas as they sit in the eucalyptus trees. Travel further north to the small fishing town of Cervantes where a visit to the Lobster Shack is a must. Take a firsthand look at the region’s multi-million dollar lobster industry where you can walk directly above the 20 tonnes of live rock lobsters. Enjoy a delicious fresh lobster lunch before heading to Nambung National Park for a close look at The Pinnacles. View The Pinnacles on a scenic drive before setting off on foot for an easy paced walk through this eerie yet fascinating landscape. Finish the day at Lancelin where you can admire the extensive sand dunes or, for the more adventurous, perhaps try sandboarding using the sandboard provided. (B,L)

Day 3 (Wednesday)

Starting in Perth, the tour takes in all the major attractions of the revitalised Perth CBD including the Western Australian Cricket Ground (WACA), newly opened Elizabeth Quay and Perth Mint. Then it’s on to Kings Park Botanical Gardens, where you will have time to experience a walk through the tree canopies on the Tree Top Walkway or take in the stunning views from the War Memorial back over the city skyline. Enjoy a picturesque drive through the affluent western suburbs of Perth, known as Millionaire’s Row, before reaching Cottesloe Beach, one of the more popular West Coast beaches. Travel on to historic Fremantle viewing the impressive facades of this heritage listed city. Long renowned for its eclectic mix of arty and alternative types, Fremantle’s streets buzz with the songs of buskers, the sidewalks fill with a collection of art, and music floats from trendy cafes and bars. Spend some time leisurely exploring historic Fremantle before returning to Perth. This afternoon is free to explore Perth at your own pace. (B)

Day 4 (Thursday)

Transfer by coach to Barrack Street Jetty and join Rottnest Express for your ferry across to the Island. Rottnest Island offers many unique and diverse experiences. Explore the beauty and tranquillity of the Island as you sit back and relax in the comfort of an air-conditioned coach. A 90 minute tour around the Island takes you to some of Rottnest’s most spectacular locations including the Wadjemup Lighthouse and the rugged West End where you will also have a chance to step outside and stroll along the boardwalk to the majestic lookout point. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Karma Rottnest Lodge before exploring the Island at your own leisure. Return to Perth by ferry this afternoon. (B,L)

Day 6 (Saturday)

This small group tour visits some of the must-see places in this famous region, Margaret River. Leaving from Perth, your first stop is Busselton to see the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere, and then enjoy the stunning ocean views from Yallingup. Plus, you’ll enjoy a relaxed, wonderful winery lunch and stroll over the bridge into the nearby Margaret River town centre for a lovely nature experience. The final stop for the day is the Yahava Koffee Works where you can smell and taste a variety of coffees
from all over the world. (B,L)

Day 7 (Sunday)

This morning you will be transferred to East Perth Rail Terminal to join the Indian Pacific. A leisurely mid-morning departure from Perth is soon followed by a regionally inspired lunch. The soft, green rolling hills slowly give way to the harsher, but every bit as striking, desert plains. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink and socialising with fellow guests in anticipation of your late-night arrival into the landmark township of Kalgoorlie, where you can experience an Off Train Excursion. Relax in the comfort of your cabin and drift off to sleep. (B,L,D)

Day 8 (Monday)

Arrive refreshed and eager for a superb sunrise on the Nullarbor. Later that day, alight the train and experience the extraordinary and ever so slightly eerie ghost town of Cook. Watch the passing parade of ever-changing landscape over dinner and share stories with old friends and new in the lounge. (B,L,D)

Day 9 (Tuesday)

Wake to a dramatic change of scenery as the train approaches the food and wine capital of Adelaide. Here you will enjoy an Off Train Excursion seeing the highlights of the city or behind the scenes of Adelaide Oval. Reboard the Indian Pacific to take in the striking, ever-changing landscape of South Australia as you head east towards Sydney. Over lunch, watch as pastures dissolve into tough Mallee scrub on approach to Broken Hill. Here you will have the opportunity to participate in an Off Train Excursion before re-joining the train for dinner. (B,L,D)
